We're not sure there are enough words to express how much Canaan Ridge has meant to our families. It is, simply, the sweetest school on earth. The care, love and commitment you have devoted every day of your life since 1977 is evident in the output and very clearly makes a difference to every generation that passes through- one child at a time! We appreciate and treasure the time our children have spent here- more than words can say!

With our deepest appreciation and love,
The Briano Family and The Ross Family

The intimate size, the progressive programs, the intriguing events, the cleanliness and order but most of all we will miss the incredible staff you have assembled. Your care and concern for the children’s welfare is unparalleled and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience Canaan Ridge.

We never could have imagined back in mid 2007 the amazing journey that Katherine would embark on at Canaan Ridge. You have created a haven where young learners are inspired to stretch their minds and reach for the stars. We could not be anymore delighted with Katherine’s achievements.

Thank you for everything!

We cannot thank you enough for what has been a truly special school year. The teachers at Canaan Ridge provided amazing learning experiences that excited Henry about music, art, reading and writing. Even more important, you created and environment in which he was nurtured and understood, and that has enabled him to thrive. It is sometimes hard to believe that this happy, confident kid is the same one we brought to you last September. It has meant the world to us to know Henry was spending his days in such an amazing place. Thank you.

All our best,
Kim and Andrew Purcell

Words cannot express how thankful we are to you and all the teachers for all you have done for our children. They are so happy at your school and are upset if they are not there. They have learned so much in their short time there this year and we can’t wait for next year. You should be so proud of what you have done with your school. I truly believe it is the Best school around!

Love,
The Gitlin Family

It has been a very precious and enjoyable growing period in academics as well as socially for Andrew. Your great educational approach in the areas of academics and ethics are so wholesome and meticulous (yet seamless). Your instilled knowledge will guide so many young individuals throughout their long life’s span. I especially thank you for Charles’ outcome and Andrews’s growth.

To Each and Every One of you at Canaan Ridge,

I know you have all had an impact on Maxie and so to all of you, Thank You. She has had a wonderful two years here, and I always felt she was in the best of hands at the best of schools. She is off to Bedford Village now, and so our days at Canaan Ridge are behind us, but we will always remember you all with love.

In the ideal world, the model of education embodied by the staff at The Canaan Ridge School would be the benchmark by which all other educational enterprises are measured. As the world is not always ideal, we appreciate even more the leadership and collective efforts you demonstrated during our brief tenure with Canaan Ridge. Every day, with every child, and in every detail, you reinforce the principle that education is really a process of life- not simply a preparation for future life. Your emphasis on the pleasure and enjoyment of being educated is apparent. Thank you for the solid and fertile foundation you have provided for Carter’s formal educational. In preparing Carter to leave Canaan Ridge, we asked him to talk about the special things that he learned from each of you. He became more empowered as the discussion continued and soon announced his plan to give a special “award” to each of you. In the spirit of this commencement season, we indulged his proposal. The citations that follow are a tribute to you and the educational experience you provide at Canaan Ridge. We are grateful for the impact you have had on Carter, and our family.

Dear Virginia,

I can’t even find words to describe how grateful I am that we found Canaan Ridge- and you. There is not another place in the world I would want Sasha and David to be.

But the reason for this card and gift is to thank you for your help, assistance and love on Friday. You are a wonderful person, Virginia. I feel privileged to have you as the educator of my children- and as a friend.

My most heartfelt thanks,
Cyd

Dear Virginia,

On this occasion of the 30th anniversary of your school, we wanted to share some thoughts. As you know too well, we try so hard to hold onto the moments of our boys’ childhood. We know the day will come too soon that we turn around and our sons are grown men. We remember so clearly moving to Bedford in 2001 and looking far-and-wide for a little school that we hoped could gently introduce our first born son to the world beyond our backyard. As Robert Fulghum says so well in “All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, we wanted Jack to learn to:

Share everything. Play fair. Don’t hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don’t take things that aren’t yours. Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the paper cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that…

Little did we know the magnitude of that request. When we found The Canaan Ridge School, we knew immediately, that it stands alone in its commitment to cherishing children and the joy and wonder of childhood. Plainly put, the sun shines brighter at Canaan Ridge. We have seen that it takes tireless and unwavering dedication to maintain such an outstanding school program. We are so grateful to you for the enormous amount of time and energy you have invested in the school and our boys.

Spring Teas, green eggs and ham, Hungry Caterpillar parties, field days, beach days, tricycle days and music reviews, celebrated personal triumphs and lasting Canaan Ridge friendships have filled our boys’ early childhood with warm and happy memories.

Thank you Virginia! You have given our family a lifelong gift that we will always cherish. Congratulations on 30 amazing years!!

Very truly yours y con mucho carino,
The Briano Family

I want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, for making our years at Canaan Ridge so special and so memorable!

It is very difficult for me to say goodbye to all of you; I am tearing up just at the thought! Thankfully, I have been busy with my new job; otherwise someone would need to scoop me off the floor!

Our time at Canaan Ridge has been magical, long, joyous, and always a new exciting adventure everyday. Your school has enabled both my children to think independently, and understand the obligation to share generously with their peers. I know William and Caroline are well equipped as they begin their new journey, because of the knowledge, and self- confidence that they were taught by all of you on a daily bases.

My love, respect, and endless thanks go out to all of you! Wishing you a cool, and healthy end of the summer. Please keep in touch!

Thank you for your caring and interest in Karina. Have a great summer!

Hugs, Kisses and Happy Tears,
Loretta, Steven, William & Caroline Dym

Assignment: An Essay About an Early Childhood Memory

A Special Place

As you grow older, memories from your early childhood fade from your mind. When you try to recall people, places and events the pictures are blurred and unrealistic. Early childhood memories are more fragments and feelings than a whole, uninterrupted picture. There is, however, one place that still stands out in my mental photo album. This place was a home away from home for me for three years. It is called The Canaan Ridge School. I remember looking forward to going to school each day. Canaan Ridge is a place full of warmth and understanding. I had many friends there because the teachers made sure that the children all treated each other with respect and kindness. Therefore, we all got along and had fun together. I learned to read, write and do math at Canaan Ridge, but none of us were ever aware that we were being “taught”. The teachers at this school make it seem as the children just absorb knowledge. I remember dancing in the gym, doing interesting art projects in the art class and playing with the “toys” in the classroom. Every holiday brought a special party. Canaan Ridge did not need holidays to be festive, however. There always seemed to be some kind of event going on. In the nice weather and in their summer camp I remember playing on the playground, nature walks and picnic lunches. Most of all I remember Virginia. Virginia is the principal of Canaan Ridge. She is an incredible person who loves children and teaching.

I graduated from the kindergarten at this school six years ago. My only regret is that I do not remember everything about those years and I know that as I grow older those wonderful images will fade even more in my mind. What is important, however, is that this special place started me off with the idea that school is a positive place to be and that learning is fun. Thanks Virginia and The Canaan Ridge School!!!
